Terry A. Stoermer, 77, of the Mainlands Community in Pinellas Park, Florida passed away on May 15, 2024, at Morton Plant Hospital.

Terry was born in Evansville, Indiana and came to Florida in 1990 from Phoenix, Arizona.  He was a proud career officer in the United States Army, serving from 1971 to 1994, and was part of the Vietnam, Gulf, and Cold Wars, retiring as a Lieutenant Colonel.

After retiring from the military, Terry continued his service to others, in many roles.  He volunteered for 18 years as a Guardian Ad Litem in both Pinellas and Brevard counties, served as a volunteer Educational Surrogate Parent in the Pinellas County School System, representing the rights of students with special education needs.  Terry was also a teaching assistant for Pasco and Brevard County schools, and served as an usher at the Our Savior Lutheran Church in St. Petersburg.

He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Rita.  Terry is also survived by his son Scott (Karin) of St. Louis, Missouri, his daughter Erin S. (Jason) Ester of Clearwater, Florida, his brother Brad E. (Mary K.) of Evansville, Indiana, and three grandchildren, Jackson, Griffin, and Morgan.

Terry is pre-deceased by his parents Harold and June of Evansville, Indiana.

A Military Honors service will be held at Bay Pines National Cemetery, 10000 Bay Pines Blvd., St. Petersburg, FL 33708 on December 17, 2024 at 11:00 am.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations in memory of Terry be made to Tunnel To Towers or Samaritan’s Purse.

Terry was a kind and devoted Guardian ad Litem Volunteer for many years. He was very dedicated to helping the children and he will be greatly missed.

I loved having Terry stop in to the new volunteer trainings for Guardian ad Litem. He was bright, positive, and willing to help. I wish that I had known him longer. My heart goes out to his family and friends who will feel his absence daily.
