John Laurance Kerutis, born February 24, 1940, in Detroit, Michigan, passed away on June 25, 2025, in St. Petersburg, Florida. He was the son of Emily and Kasten Kerutis, the father of Sharon and Michael, and proud grandfather of Samantha.
He was well known for being an intelligent, creative thinker who could solve any problem that came his way. He could figure out how almost anything worked and could either fix it or improve it. A true renaissance man, he was a musician in his early years, building his own guitars. By trade he was an industrial psychologist in engineering and later built a successful real estate business. He provided for and protected his family to the best of his ability.
He understood that wealth is not measured by money or material possessions, but rather by family, health, memories, and kindness. He was the kind of person who would give his last dollar to help someone in front of him in line at the grocery store. His virtues of self-discipline, self-reliance, frugality, and generosity were gifts instilled in his children.
John’s life was real and full of heart. He will be missed by many and remembered with love and gratitude.
The family would like to thank his friends and caregivers at Trinity House, Bayfront Health, Empath Health, Dedicated Senior Care, and Taylor Funeral Home for their kindness and support.
