John Herman Harte died December 1, 2022, in St. Petersburg, Florida. He was born in 1927 in Omaha Nebraska. John married Dorothy Beatty Harte on June 29, 1957, and they remained married until his death. Dorothy is his only known survivor. He wrote that Dorothy was a tremendous booster and great inspiration to him.
John served in the U.S Navy during WW II and later in the Naval Reserves.
He received a B.A. in commercial art from the University of Wyoming and also received training at the Chicago Art Institute and the College of Arts and Crafts in Oakland, CA.
He worked at Chevron from 1957 -1978 retiring as an office manager.
John and Dorothy loved to travel and visited Mexico, Central America, the Caribbean, Spain, and took an around the world trip.
He participated in many local art activities including at the Morean Arts Center, Museum of Fine Arts, and Studio 620. He has had many art shows through the years including exhibits at the Grand Canyon National Park, Lemoyne Art Foundation, Studio 620, and the Poynter Library. Several of his paintings are on display at the Don Cesear Hotel on St. Pete Beach.
John has been listed in Who’s Who in American Art, and was featured in the Tampa Bay Times and Northeast Journal.
He was a member of First Presbyterian Church in St. Petersburg.
