July 06, 1940~July 24, 2024

The family of John G. Swisher, from Columbus, Ohio and recently of Pinellas Park, Florida, mourn the loss of their husband, father, brother and friend on July 24, 2024.

John is survived by his loving wife of 65 years, Joan L. (Parke) Swisher, their sons Phillip C. Swisher and John W. Swisher, their daughter Lori A. (Robert) Cox, brothers Stan (Patricia) Swisher, Lynn (Sandy) Swisher, sister Karen Swisher, special niece Cheryl Colatruglio, grandchildren Daniel Rolnick, Christopher Mitchell, Kerrigan Mitchell, Leah Swisher, Shawn Gunnoe, Aidan Cox and Olivia Cox.

A lifelong servant, John retired as a member of the Plumbers and Pipefitters Union Local 189, had been an HVAC service technician and had also taught adult education at Columbus Public Schools, and Heating Ventilation and Air Conditioning at Columbus State Community College.  He attended and was a member of Tri-Village Christian Church (Ohio) and First Christian Church of Seminole (Florida).

Situated between two flagpoles always hoisting university and country pride, as well as a large inscription of the word Ohio, John was proud of his roots and his family. He is remembered as an enthusiastic OSU Buckeye football and basketball fan, an avid reader of a range of genres, consummate crossword puzzle solver, expert card player in Spades, Euchre and Bridge, pool and darts player, and bowler. He restored the family’s houses and cars and enjoyed watching and participating in quarter mile drag racing. He was the go-to guy for those needing assistance in their repairs and could intuitively fix all problems, no matter the degree of difficulty. He was an American and world history buff and lifelong student of biblical history, maintaining a unique collection of Bibles.

John was the rock on which we all depended and will be missed by so many. The family will be conducting a Celebration of Life gathering in Florida later in the year.

We would like to offer our deepest condolences to Joan , Phil and all the family during this very sad time. We met John 5 years ago when we purchased our Winter home on Rose Dr..John would often pop by to see how we were doing with the renovations and always offered an encouraging word. We remember him as a kind and gentle man whose presence will certainly be missed in our Park.
