Ilias Kanellopoulos passed away on February 9, 2024 at the age of 90 surrounded by his family who will continue to honor his legacy.

He was born in Mesochori (outside Kalamata) Greece, served in the Greek Army, and later emigrated to New York.  He was in the restaurant business, a member of AHEPA, St. Stefanos Greek Orthodox Church, and previously Prophet Elias Greek Orthodox Church in Yonkers, NY.  Elias is survived by his wife Evyenia  of 47 years, daughters Stavroula (Yiorgos) and Sophia, sister Evyenia (Vasilios), granddaughter Vasiliki, nephews Athanasios (Alexandra), Elias (Evangelia), their children Anastasia, Aggeliki, Vasilios and Nikos, and many cousins in Greece, New York, Canada, and Australia.

He is pre-deceased by his parents Yiorgos and Stavroula and his sisters Sophia and Anastasia (Dimitrios).

The simplest pleasures in life brought great joy to Ilias.  He was known for his generosity, kindness and love of cooking and being around family and friends.  He shared his passion at many church dances at Prophet Elias Greek Church in Yonkers, New York, followed by St. Stefanos Greek Orthodox Church in St. Petersburg, Florida.

Ilias infused his personality wherever he went.  He was outgoing and loved to tell stories.  He had a Greek saying for almost every experience in life.

On Thursday, February 15, 2024 a viewing is scheduled for 9:00 am followed by funeral service at 10:00 am St. Stefanos Greek Orthodox Church, 3600 76th Street, St. Petersburg, FL 33710.  In lieu of flowers, please send donations to St. Stefanos Greek Orthodox Church.
