Mary Spencer

In loving memory of Mary Spencer, age 90 of St. Petersburg, FL. She was a cherished matriarch who departed this world, leaving behind a legacy of warmth and wisdom. Mary was born in Russell Springs, KY, and came to Florida in 1970 having lived in Columbus, IN her adult life.

She was deeply devoted to her Christian faith and served in numerous capacities as a member of the Assemblies of God church in Columbus, IN, St. Petersburg, FL and Dunedin, FL for over 60 years. Her gift of hospitality and southern cooking was the centerpiece and strength of her family. Mary enjoyed a life-long craft of hand quilting and custom made one for each child and grandchild. She was a voracious reader and read the Bible through every year, for over 35 years.

She is survived by her devoted daughter, Vicky Chaleff, and son, Larry Spencer; daughter in-law, Katherine Spencer; sister, Cora Emery; niece, Katherine Hodge; adoring grandchildren: Amy, Eva, Arizona, Madison, Destin. Her great-grandchild, Oliver, was the joy of her later years. Mary is pre-deceased by her husband, Horace, her son, David, and her son-in-law Bruce Chaleff.

She will be remembered for her boundless love, nurturing spirit, sense of humor, and the countless cherished moments that she created with and for her family. Her legacy of kindness and compassion lives on in the hearts of those she touched. May she rest in eternal peace. “To be absent from the body, is to be present with the Lord”

A graveside memorial will be celebrated on Saturday, December 9th at 11:00 am at Chapel Hill Memorial Park: 12905 Wild Acres Rd, Largo, FL 33773.
