It is with great sorrow that we announce the passing of our beloved John Charles Lautz on December 17, 2025, at the age of 68, in the St. Petersburg, FL area.
A Catholic service was held in his honor at Taylor Funeral Home on December 26, 2025, followed by his interment in a mausoleum crypt at Calvary Catholic Cemetery in Clearwater.
John’s life was shaped by his early years spent in various parts of the world, as his father, U.S. diplomat Donald C. Lautz, was stationed at embassies in Mexico City (twice), Acapulco, Rome, Naples, and La Paz, Bolivia. These experiences fostered a lifelong love for diverse cultures, languages, and travel.
After earning his degree from American University in Washington, D.C., John served as an administrator at the Pan American Health Organization (PAHO), the regional office for the Americas of the World Health Organization (WHO).
Following his retirement, John relocated to Miami to be close to his parents, Donald and Betty. After their move to Mexico City, John made his home in St. Petersburg.
John is survived by his lifelong friend Robert Sogge; cousins Steve and Andy Riddle; and both the Lautz and Sogge families.
