Harold Steven Houk went home to be with the Lord on December 23, 2025.
Harold was born in Hendersonville North Carolina to Jake and Edna Houk (deceased) on July 3, 1945. He had one brother, Robert Houk, (deceased).
Left to honor Harold’s memory is his wife Fran Houk of Saint Petersburg, Florida, daughter, Cheronda Jones and husband Danny of South Carolina, one son, Shawn Franklin of North Carolina, granddaughter Camery Oliver of Texas, treasured grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Harold played music in a rock and roll band during his teen years, The Waymates, which is still being played in the UK.
After high school he went to work building parts of Interstate 40, then on to Pat Mays dam in northern Texas, until he was drafted into the military where he was in a movie with John Wayne and David Jensen, “The Green Beret”.
He worked for 25 years for DuPont until retirement then owned and operated Secluded Valley Campground in Avery County, NC for 18 years. Retiring again, Harold and his wife Fran made their home in Saint Petersburg, Florida.
Harold will always be remembered for giving a helping hand wherever needed and wanted everyone to be happy by making them laugh and being kind and compassionate to everyone. Most of all he wanted everyone to know that he loved the Lord and served Him!
A Celebration of Life service will be January 17, 2026, at 2:30 p.m. at Irving Park Baptist Church, 5001 71st Street North, St. Petersburg, Florida 33709, 727-544-3660
After the service everyone is invited to attend a fellowship meal at the Club House in Lake Ridge Village, 7777 46th Ave. North, St. Petersburg, FL 33709.
