Lardy Santos

Gallardo Borromeo Santos, 66, of Clearwater, passed away suddenly on December 25th, 2020.

He was a devoted husband, father and most recently grandfather. Gallardo, known by most as Lardy, was born on June 23, 1954 to Dr. Pelagio and Remedios Santos in Navotas, Philippines.

He attended Our Lady of Fatima College of Nursing and graduated in 1976 as a member of the pioneer class. In 1979, he immigrated from the Philippines to the United States where he would spend the next 41 years as a nurse.

Family was the most important thing to Lardy. He loved his family more than anything. He married his wife, Madelene in St. Petersburg in 1985 and welcomed daughter Aileen the following year. His grandson, Roman was the apple of his eye and most recently retired to spend more time with him. He can often be described as a compassionate, generous and loving person by all who knew him. He was an active member of the Tampa Bay Filipino Basketball community and Filipino-American Club of Pinellas.

Lardy was predeceased by his father, Pelagio and sister, Daisy.  He is survived by his loving wife, Madelene; his daughter, Aileen Santos-Dy (John); his Grandson and light of his life, Roman; his mother, Remedios; his sister, Adora; his brothers Romero, Jun, Novo; nieces and nephews; and a number of close relatives all over the world.

A memorial mass will be held at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Pinellas Park on Wednesday, December 30th at 10am, with Rev. Fr. Kevin Yarnell, Celebrant.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that a memorial contribution be made to a charity of your choice.

Our deepest sympathy to the family. We pray that with your friends and family’s help and your faith in God, you will get through this difficult time. I am glad he was able to experience the joy of being a grandparent, even though it was far too short. I’m glad Jessica is able to attend the service. We are there in prayer. God bless you.

I’m so sad and in shock. Lardy was my nurse at Pakm Garden he was the best. So many memories. The residents adored him and he was so kind and compassionate with them. May God be with you and your family at this time. Roman has a lifetime Angel to watch over him. He was the proudest Grandfather he beamed and smiled from ear to ear. Lardy rest now. And know you were loved by so many. Patti Bukowski
