Louis Joseph Mazzochetti, Jr., “L.J.”, 60 of Pinellas Park, passed away March 9, 2020 at St. Petersburg General Hospital. L.J. was born in Royal Oak, Michigan, moving here with his family in 1979. L.J. was a big guy, with a big smile and even bigger heart. He ran a successful race team, LJ Motorsports for years at Sunshine Speedway. The cars were well prepared, driven by talented drivers and they won often. His cars were always numbered 05 & 15 and ran in Street Stock, Figure 8 and Open Wheel Modified. Along the way he developed a love for motorcycles, big fast motorcycles. They were always pampered and meticulously maintained. The past few years weren’t kind to him health wise, but he never lost that smile and if anyone needed anything, big L.J. was there to help. Because if you had L.J. as a friend you needed little else. He is survived by his sister, Patricia Fegley, her husband Kim and nephew, Mark. He was preceded in death by his father, Louis J. Mazzochetti, Sr.; his mother, Louise P. “NASCAR NANA” Mazzochetti, a Sunshine Speedway fixture, that everyone knew & loved and his Great Dane, Buster.
There are several service options being kicked around but nothing is set up yet. As with the rest of the world, uncertainty rules the moment. Will post service info as it unfolds. Simply felt compelled to get something out about our friend Big L.J.
