Gregory (Greg) John Wood, age 35, born on March 15th, 1985 passed away on Saturday, November 14th, 2020. Raised in Elmira, New York, Greg attended Southside High School where he was on the Wrestling team and played Saxophone in the school Band. After graduating High School, he moved to Largo, Florida where he eventually found his true home in Saint Petersburg.He was employed as a Baker at Cassis, an American/French fare bakery. He loved working there and considered the Cassis staff as a true family. Greg was always passionate about music with an eclectic taste ranging from hip-hop, hard rock, folk to punk, and classic rock. He loved the lyrical styling’s of artists such as Nipsey Hussle, Westside Gunn, Conway the Machine, and XXXTentacion. He was a die-hard Leonard Cohen fan. He also loved artists such as Samiam, The Pogues, Deftones, TV On The Radio, IDLES, and Bob Dylan. His love for music went beyond just listening as he was also a talented musician himself. Greg was a poet. He wrote lyrics and beats to create his own music. He had an avid love of reading and learning about history, culture, and social injustices. Greg followed the teachings of Islam and was a firm believer in the power of meditation. Greg was an old soul and had a huge heart. Anyone that knew Greg regarded him as a kind and generous person. He was the type of person that would give whatever he had in order to help someone, whether it was food, clothing, or even just an ear to listen. His friends, family, and coworkers knew him as an extremely dedicated and hardworking individual with a love for the culinary arts. Greg had a goodness and humor about him that could bring out the best in people. He loved making people laugh and always had something clever to say to break up the monotony of the everyday stressful moments. When not at work or helping within the community, Greg enjoyed playing with his dog Layla and taking her for walks around the downtown St. Pete area. His family is extremely proud of him for overcoming many hardships in his life to become a strong advocate for social justice in his local community. Greg was heavily involved with the Black Lives Matter and UHURU Solidarity movements. He would spend all of his free time putting up fliers, calling for support and donations, promoting events, and participating in marches including a recent march that brought him all the way to Washington, DC. Through his diligent work in the community, he discovered his true calling in life was fighting for the rights of others to make a difference. There are no words that can truly emphasize Greg’s impact on the lives he touched. He will be deeply missed by his friends, family, and all that had the privilege to know him. He is survived by his father and spouse, John Wood & Linda Wood; mother and spouse, Nancy Buzzetti & Chuck Buzzetti; brother and spouse, Chris Wood & Haley Wood; grandmother, Rita Wood; stepbrother and spouse, Dustin Westwood & Christina Westwood; stepsister, Stephanie Westwood; nephews, Kameron Collins, Benjamin Forney, and Emmett Nieves; nieces, Rylee Westwood, Kinsley Westwood, and Emilia Nieves; and his dog, Layla.
