Dora “Darlene” Alice (Lasanen) Jenkins, 95, Floral City, went to be with her husband and family members on September 25, 2020 at Palm Garden of Largo Rehabilitation Center. Darlene was born on November 18, 1924 to the late John and Cornelia (Miller) Lasanen in the Township of Redford Michigan. In her early years, she was best known as one of the few female race car drivers of that time and once beat Big Daddy Don Garlits during a non-official race to later lose to him by half of a tire length during the officially recorded race.
Darlene is preceded by her husband Thomas “Eddie” Jenkins; brothers George, Johnny and Sam Lasanen; daughter Julia (Lane) Jackson; and son J.R. Lane. Left to cherish her memory is her son Joe Jenkins and his wife Patty; her grandchildren Troy Jackson and wife Linda, Robert Lane and wife Rhonda; Shannen (Lane) Carrasquillo, Brad Jackson and wife Cathy; her great grandchildren Chelsea Jackson; James, Jared and Kayla Doty; Danielle, Taylor and Robbie Lane; Joshua Carrasquillo; Cadence and Parker Jackson; and her great-great grandson Gunner Doty.
