A 5th generation Floridian, Ed was born in Tampa and has lived in Pinellas County since 1964. He has seen our region grow from dirt roads to interstates, from open unrestricted beaches and citrus groves to urban commercial and high rise residential developments.
He began working for the Prevatt Funeral Home in Pinellas Park while at Northeast High School in St. Petersburg. He says, "all kids worked somewhere in those days, gas stations, grocery stores, movie theaters, I went to work at a funeral home". After high school he attended Miami-Dade Community College and graduated with an AA degree in Mortuary Science. Served two years of internship and passed his National Board exam and State Board of Florida exam's for his Embalming & Funeral Directors Licenses. He's been serving family's in Pinellas and Hillsborough Counties ever since.
Ed was elected to the Pinellas Park City Council in March 1998 and has been re-elected in all subsequent elections. His current term expired in 2018 and was his last. He has represented the City on the Pinellas Suncoast Transit Authority Board of Directors (PSTA), the Tampa Bay Regional Planning Council (TBRPC) and the Agency on Bay Management (ABM).
His service to our community and the Tampa Bay area includes past President of the Pinellas Park Historical Society, member of Celebrate Pinellas Park, Inc., Pinellas Park Art Society, Friends of Library, Pinellas Park Rotary Club, Pinellas Park Kiwanis Club, Pinellas Park/Mid-County Chamber of Commerce, Board of Trustees of the Crohn’s & Colitis Foundation, Diocesan Board of Catholic Formation & Education, St. Vincent DePaul Society, Knights of Columbus, O.T.H.E.R.S. of Morning Star School and Sacred Heart Catholic Church.
He is the vice chairman of the Pinellas Park Water Management District (PPWMD), with a term to expire in October 2020.
Ed is married to the lovely Barbara and they have two sons, John (Tennille) & Bryan and four granddaughters; Landree, Finlee, Lily Ann & Ella Grace and an old cat named Boulevard. "My family will always be my full time job and one from which I'll never retire".
